I previously read something in a newsletter (either NAFA or FHA) and now I just read a post on Trapperman.
So should I remove the ears when putting up beaver? If so, what's the best way to do it and still have a nice looking pelt?

Never removed the ears before.

Thanks Mole. Neither have I. But just read about it a couple of times.
As long as it won't hurt the value, I'll just leave them on.

Dear Friend, NAFA suggests trappers remove the ears on large beaver pelt to prevent them from molding. Also cut off the nose and whiskers as they measure the pelt from the eye holes to the base of the tail and across the width of the pelt Regards

Thanks. That's what I was reading in their publication. Are they suggesting you just cut them off flush with the pelt? I imagine most of the moisture/grease will be at the base. But if you cut out the base of the ears then there will be a hole in the pelt.
