Has anyone on here ever seen of trapped a black or cross fox in NY state? I was coming home yesterday around 12:30 pm around the corner from my house is a clearing with wood lots on both sides,A main highway just outside a thin run of brush and trees.A back road that a few houses are on .I had come up this back road and as I passed the woodlot next to the last house before the clearing I saw a fox about 15 feet out into the clearing from that wood lot.It did not look like our typical frosted reds we have here on the island .It was indeed a fox .I stopped an backed up to get a better look.It took off back into the the wood lot.I did have sunglasses on so not too sure on color, but it appeared a dark color ,wanna say d@mn close to black .Didn't even see a white tipped tail.Needless to say I set a couple footholds on the southwest corner as the wind is supposed to be coming from that direction tonight.Bad thing is this is a populated area.I plan on checking early and springing the trap during daylight as people do walk dogs near there.I'm not to concerned with scent cause I know for sure there is no way that the smell of humans is not allover that place. If I saw this guy yesterday midday, whats the chance I'll have him during the night or within a short time period. I have seen two totally mangled fox dead on the road near this area this year and one last year same crossing area on the main highway.

This fox was about 20 feet away from me when I saw it ,what about mange? It's fur looked full even the tail, but had that thought cross my mind about it possably having mange.

I would say it is possible .I have seen color mutations in many different animals over the years.

was in Canisteo few years back turkey hunting. I had a pure white on the smaller size fox junp on a log and scratch its chin. It was only about 25 ft from me. I was told there were fox farms at one point, and it was probably a artic that escaped.?

They sell for a good price, there primarly used for trim, if fox fur coats come back, they will do really well.

They I guess changed the classification on fox. They are now considered a agricultural farm animal. So as I understand it no permits are needed to keep them now.

Raising fox fall under NY AG & Market law, these are animals which have been domesticated for over a 100 years. You can only keep live wild fox with a permit from the dec, which you will never get.

Heres the difference between a ranch and a wild fox. And I'm pretty certain that wild red went XL at NAFA
