NOPE Missed another one this morning. Trap pulled out no hair or anything just coyote tracks right down the road to the trap then running away.

Sounds like weak springs to me, are the traps new or have the spring been replaced recently??

No I got them used. At this point I'll probaly finish out the season and try again next year. New to this and have learned a lot and I'm looking forward to next season (and new traps)

I like to replace my springs every few years just for piece of mind or if I notice they seem weak when I go over them before each season

i was wondering about the ant dirt , as i use it to get the trap as solid as i can then finish up with peat moss, i was told that the ant dirt has a natural water repellent to it. it does get wet but dries up fast at sets.

I been running hulls so long,I forget how to work with dirt.tried peat last year for a few days, went back to hulls. IMO trap bedding is overrated, but what do I know. Trap goes in a hole (bed) hulls on bottom hulls on top,fox in the hulls is coming home with me.

I would rather check 100 wobbley sets than than 100 froze down sets.

Barrington I agree. A wobbly set is better that a non-functioning trap.

I trap a stone quarry and prop the trap up with stones and cover with peat, this is for cats but coyotes show up I'am gonna soak it in glycerne and use that on the walkin' instead of the wax dirt -----peat is a lot lighter .I try not to complicate things my mostist secertist set is one more trap-----Tom

I heard on this forum once you absolutely, positively, couldn't bed a trap rock solid stable with peat moss for bedding ?

I used a combo of peat moss & waxed dirt last winter and it worked GREAT !!! It lasted and lasted and still caught coyotes.Just picked up 50# of flake wax for 50 bucks last week. Ed
